Languages Other Than English

Kaibara Japan 2010

In Japanese, students will develop language skills by being introduced to language structures, completing activities in the Japanese scripts of hiragana and katakana. Some kanji characters will be introduced to provide more depth of learning.

Students will cover the three outcomes of Listening and Responding and Speaking, Viewing, Reading and Responding and Writing. The course entails a variety of learning activities including traditional situational/functional text book style learning complimented by some communication based activities.

Opportunities for further studies in Years 11 and 12 are available by SIDE on CENTRA, a virtual classroom. Lessons may be complimented by time spent with a native speaker of Japanese.

To enhance the progam, a sister‐school relationship between Kaibara Senior High School in Japan has developed. This enables our students to travel to Japan, stay with a Japanese family and so some sightseeing. Students from Kaibara also visit SVSHS giving an opportunity for students to host a student from Japan, usually for a 5 day period.

If you are interested in Japanese and would like further information please contact Mr James Pollard, LOTE (Japanese) Teacher on 9294 0100.
